Font Analysis
There are formal fonts and informal fonts that can be used to represent a certain genre. In Disney films, the majority of the titles have formal, old style writing. This style of writing shows how old the film is.
Times New Roman font is a serif font. Serifs are the use of lines on letters, for example the letter E;

Whereas, Sans has no specific lining on the letters, E;

The font used for the poster of Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' uses serifs. Serifs make writing seem more formal. Disney needs to have more formal writing to channel the fantasy is portrays. The fonts used represent how the Disney princesses would write if they were to be real.
'The Conjuring' font is also very formal. This represents the age of the film, The Conjuring is based on a true story in 1972. Back then, letters were written formally with neat writing, so this is represented in The Conjuring lettering.

Costume Analysis

Costume Analysis
Why is costume important?

The costume in which characters wear allow the audience/viewers to know the genre of the film. For example if the characters are wearing baggy trousers and gold chains, you would associate them with a gangster or crime film.
  • The girls in 'The Purge: Election Year' are wearing masks to hide their identities. They want to hide their identities so then revenge cannot be taken on them because people will not be able to recognise their faces. On the leaders mask it has 'kiss me' written on it. This is to entice people, it is also written in red which represents evil and death.
  • They are all wearing skimpy dresses. This is too come across as sexy to other people, also to entice people.
  • One is dressed in white- white represents innocence and purity. She wants to come across as innocent on the night of the purge, even though she is killing people.
  • 'The Boogie Man' in 'Sinister' wears a full black attire. The colour black symbolises death and depression. This represents him as a person because he is evil and likes to cause depression against others.
  • He is also wearing a suit. Suits are usually worn by smart business men who earn a good wage. This may show that he had a good job before he became evil.
  • His clothes are dirty, this shows he has worn them for a long time and doesn't have the ability to wash them. His hair is long and matted together which shows he hasn't washed himself either, so he has poor personal hygiene.

Analysis of The Shining

Analysis of The Shining: props

The man uses an axe to break down the door. An axe has been used because it is a more intimate weapon because you have to get quite close to the victim. However, the lady uses a knife the cut open the man's hand. A knife can be just as dangerous as an axe but because a knife is an everyday object it makes the danger of it seem more uncomfortable.

Analysis of Se7en

Analysis of Se7en box scene: prop

The box in this scene has a fragile sticker across it. This shows that the murderer believed the ladies head to be fragile and precious. The use of the brown box is very informative and simplistic. The detective uses a gun to kill the murderer, a gun is an easy weapon to kill somebody because it can kill from a far way away. The box is brown which represents a normal regular box, they would be surprised to find what is inside it.

Preliminary Evaluation

When making our preliminary task film, we made sure that we followed the criteria given to us to the best of our abilities. As we were both new to the different media terms we tried our best in putting everything in. By following the criteria, we were able to structure our film, we made sure we added exactly what was asked, such as match on action, 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. It perhaps did not look as good as it could but we tried the new techniques without any struggle.

To be honest, I really liked our idea for this task because it’s a controversial topic and we picked great people to participate in our film. They wasn’t fazed by the theme, they both took to their roles very quickly and easily.

When making our next films we will now be able to listen and take on board all criticisms and feedback to ensure our work is up to standard.

Storyboard

The storyboard helps us fit together each scene, without this the film would be muddled up and will not show continuity.
Its like a plan because it starts off the structure of the film and gives the whole task a foundation of where to start and finish.

Shooting Schedule
The shooting schedule shows the producer and director exactly where the scene needs to be filmed and who is starring in that specific scene.
It also tells you when the scenes have been filmed e.g either in the day or at night time.

Diagram of Shots

This is my diagram of shots. This shows where the camera is going to be placed for each shot taken. Each camera position will show exactly where the characters will be present.
Script:

Courtney: "Hello"

James: "...Hello"

Courtney: "We need to talk about us...its too risky"

James: "We just have to be careful"
