Production Companies

What does a production company do?

Production companies provide the physical work in the realms of performing arts, film, television, radio and video. 

The Big Six 

'The Big Six' are the frontrunners of the film production industry. 
Warner Bros. Pictures- They stand at the front of the entertainment industry. In 2013, Warner Bros ruled the movie industry with a market share of $5.03 billion globally. Their biggest releases of 2013 were, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Gravity, and Man of Steel. Harry Potter and the Superman series have made Warner Bros number 1 in the film industry.

- The Shining (1980)

20th Century Fox- The worlds second largest film production company after Warner Bros. The company is known for the success of Avatar, Die Hard, Planet of The Apes, Night at The Museum and Fantastic Four. Many of these films were seen of streaming sites but the company still made their $1 billion mark in gross domestic revenue in 2014. 
There were no horror films made by 20th Century Fox

Paramount Pictures- Paramount Pictures is the longest running studio in Hollywood. In 2014, Paramount became the only film production company to release their films in digital-form only.

- The Ring 

Universal Pictures- This company is best known for the hit films from Steven Spielberg; Jaws, E.T and Jurassic Park, each became the highest grossing films during their release. Walt Disney is linked to Universal Pictures, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and the recreation of Whitecap Bay for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides were shot at Universal.

Sony Pictures- The studio enjoyed its best year in terms of box-office grosses in 2012, with its films collecting US$ 4.4 billion in ticket sales. Sony has produced, distributed, or co-distributed successful film series including Spider-Man, Men in Black, Underworld, and Resident Evil.

- The Cabin in The Woods 
- The Grudge 
- The Boogeyman 

Walt Disney- Walt Disney has produced Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio, which were sell outs. Over the years, Walt Disney has upgraded their technology in live film and animation. Steamboat Willie was the first film that had synchronised sound and image.
