Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

The task that we were given was to make a short film highlighting three media techniques;

  • match on action
  • 180 degree rule
  • shot reverse shot
The task brief was to show a character walking into a room, joining another character by sitting down at a table and then they exchange a few short lines of dialogue.

Our tasks had to incorporate a technique called continuity editing. Continuity editing is used to maintain clear narrative actions by following a set of rules.

Ideas for Preliminary Task

We had many ideas for our preliminary task for example;
  • a student being told of by a teacher
  • two girls who have been caught doing something they shouldn't have and run away to hide in a classroom
  • a controversial topic of a student teacher relationship
We decided to go with the student teacher relationship because it is a controversial topic which does happen in day-to-day life.

Planning for Preliminary Task

They way we planned this task was by discussion and written notes. We discussed the type of topic that we would go with and what the characters will say. We made a storyboard to represent our ideas. The storyboard shows the different clips that will be filmed and explains where the camera will be facing.
